The idea for the Dr. Feickert Analogue Firebird Turntable is based upon their Woodpecker and Blackbird decks.
The ability to handle two 12-inch tonearms was critical as was simplifying the turntable setup and alignment procedures. The Dr. also focused on the visual perspective with evolutionary refinements regarding form factor, fit, finish, and presence. From a tonal standpoint, the Firebird represents the pinnacle of the DFA product line, as it is truly their new reference turntable!
The mission of the Dr. Feickert Analogue Firebirdwas not to simply modify the electronics used in the Woodpecker and Blackbird – that would have been too simple. Instead, Feickert started from scratch with all new electronics. They developed a much more sophisticated type of hardware and completely rewrote the software, taking the multi-motor-turntable operation to a never-before-seen level. These refinements were so impactful, that Feickert integrated them into current Woodpecker and Blackbird tables as well, elevating their performance too!
Running on three motors Dr. Feickert chose the only geometrical configuration that really makes sense – the equilateral triangle. As proved with the Blackbird, the positive effects of reduced drag force on the bearing is bettered by the triangle configuration as it stabilizes the bearing/platter assembly by canceling out all acting forces. Any and all tendencies of gyration are effectively eliminated. Combined with the all-new bearing with 80% reduced area of contact, they achieve much lower friction causing less rumble and improving the wow & flutter of the Dr. Feickert Analogue Firebird even more.
The result is timeless elegance paired with perfect measurements. Ease of use at a new level that improves upon the experience from their smaller model decks. The Firebird is easier to set up, thanks to new feet that offer greater leveling capability along with improved sound. In addition, they have also implemented and improved their well-known built-in Protractor TT for setting up tonearms and cartridges.
