When Lucinda Williams came to town.

Posted by Tim Schroeder on

Lucinda Williams’ crew reached out to me one cold and rainy October morning. They had a show in town (Chicago) and they were having issues with one of their amplifiers (of a brand I won’t mention) and needed to get it running smoothy and at the venue for sound check. It was dropped at my shop and I dug in. Hours spent, hair lost and I had absolutely no idea how this thing could be generating the noise that it was. I reached out the manufacturer and was immediately put on with the head technician. Together we trouble shot the amp for 2 additional hours. The end result was an amp with every circuit cut out of the signal path and it was still making the noise. Both the tech and I were positively baffled how this could be possible at all! I made a call to a dealer friend of mine who I knew had the same model on the floor and begged him to let me borrow the guts so that I could help the show go on in time. The swap was made, I enjoyed a fantastic show and the company that made the amp? Paid me a discounted rate for 1 hour of my 8… Too bad not everyone plays a Schroeder amp!
