Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys set my Musical Soul in Stone.

Above all else, Jimi Hendrix’s “Band of Gypsys” recordings set my musical soul in stone at a very early age. It all started with the first record titled “Band of Gypsys”. This first album was a collection of songs selected from the Fillmore East concerts on January 1st, 1970. The addition of Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums changed everything. More organic, thick and bad ass… I think I’ve owned every iteration of these recordings and as new material from these dates emerged, I eagerly stood in line and then raced back to the studio to soak it all in. This new boxed set is positively stunning! It features ALL of the material from these historic concerts in chronological order. Produced by Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer and John McDermott and mastered by the man, Bernie Grundman! It’s a musical and sonic orgy for the senses. I’d say more but I’d rather go flip the forth LP now…
